Dennis Lehane

Dennis Lehane, né le 4 août 1965 dans le quartier de Dorchester à Boston, est un écrivain américain d'origine irlandaise.

Après des études à Boston (ville récurrente de ses romans noirs), il part à l'Université internationale de Floride pour étudier l'écriture créative. Tout en écrivant son premier livre, Un dernier verre avant la guerre (A Drink Before the War, 1994), il vit de métiers divers (livreur, libraire, chauffeur). Ancien éducateur travaillant pour la défense de l'enfance maltraitée, ce thème reste très présent dans ses œuvres.



Il a publié une cinquantaine d'ouvrages dont les bestsellers Gone, Baby, Gone (1998) ou encore Ténèbres, prenez-moi la main (Darkness, Take My Hand, 1996). Mystic River (2001) a remporté un Massachusetts Book Award ainsi que le Prix Mystère de la Critique 2003 (roman étranger).

Shutter Island (2003) a inspiré le film de même titre, réalisé par Martin Scorsese, avec Leonardo DiCaprio, en 2009.

Il vit avec sa famille à Los Angeles.
